After a closer look, however, the insect was identified as a cockchafer, also commonly known as a May bug. Although it may look intimidating because of its size, noisy flight, and clumsy movement, this seasonal beetle is generally harmless to people and pets.

Cockchafers do not sting, bite, or cause direct danger inside the house. In most cases, they enter homes by accident, especially during warmer months when windows or doors are left open. They are strongly attracted to light, which is why they may suddenly appear near lamps, bathroom lights, or bright indoor spaces at night.
